Modern day manufacturing methods can be damaging to the planet. Even those processes which use natural raw materials such as wood and timber can have a negative impact, by ruining forests and areas of natural beauty.

Here at Humber Imports, we are proud to use only materials that are sourced sustainably and which do not harm the planet. We are passionate about conservation and how bad practices can have a detrimental effect on the way the world looks. That's why we only use ethically sourced and harvested teak in all of our furniture.

Preserving Indonesian forests

All of the high quality grade A teak used in our garden furniture comes from Indonesia, which possesses the largest area of forest in Asia. In order to comply with the Indonesian assurance scheme in place, all of the timber used in our teak garden furniture carries the SVKL certificate. This document is issued by the Indonesian government to certify that the timber has been sourced from sustainable forests and that all of the processes involved are legal and ethical.

SVKL stands for Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu, which translates to the Indonesian Timber Legality Assurance System. It is commonly abbreviated to SVKL, but may also be known as INDO-TLAS. The certificate provides a guarantee that the timber is sourced, felled and manufactured entirely through legal means.

Complying with EU standards

Further to the guidelines set out by the SVLK, the EU has a Timber Legality System in place which works closely with the Indonesian authorities. All of our teak complies with the EU Timber Legality System, and this also ensures that the timber sourced for our teak garden furniture is legally sourced from sustainable sources.

In conjuction with the SVLK certification, our compliance with these EU standards reaffirms our commitment to the planet and in preserving the forests from which our teak is sourced.

A green approach

To further strengthen our position as an ethical and green supplier of teak garden furniture sets, all of the packaging that we use on our products is recycled and environmentally friendly. As a result, you can rest assured that when you purchase from us, not only are you getting high quality wooden garden furniture, but also that the planet has not been damaged at any point during the process of sourcing right through to packaging.
